I am researching my 5X Gt Grandmother, Ann Handley, who married Abel Hunt. Ann’s father was George Handley, credited in several trees on Ancestry as being the son of Thomas Handley of Hall Carr, and Hannah Fenton. Having looked at the information supplied in the records by Thomas himself, there was a child George who died as an infant, born 1695. I have found the marriage of George Handley and Ann (nee Cartwright) and a baptism for George for 1697, putting him at the right age, and states the father as being Thomas. I’m wondering if Thomas Handley had another son and named him George? Another tree on Wiki Tree suggests that George’s parents were from Leicestershire and that he was born in 1689; I believe this to be totally wrong as it does not tally with his age when he got married. I am trying to verify the Sheffield connection; if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated. Steve Jackson

      Dear Steve,

Abel Hunt b. 1720 is my 5 x Great Grandfather, this research was passed onto me by a distant cousin in New Zealand, There is a marriage of an Abel Hunt to a Ann Hadley 23 December 1755 St Kenelm, Worcestershire. Is this Ann Handley, with a spelling mistake?

I have like yourself looked at the family trees concerning Abel Hunt & Ann Handley on Ancestry, I do not know who Abel’s parents were, or his occupation. I am intrigued if Ann Handley is the same Ann Hadley, what was Abel’s social position i marrying into Ann Hadley’s family.
