One of the things to consider when looking at the census details are that people lie. Women tend to take off a few years, the locations stated for birth are quite often different as the years pass on the census, children’s and adult first names can change over time.

Your own close family may provide you with information passed on to them which may be incorrect.

Check the 1911 and previous census information and do comparisons.

I am assuming you know about the 1939 register, check it out if you haven’t done already.

Birth Marriage and death certificates provide lots of information, but you’ll need to purchase these.

If you are serious about research start by asking everyone for copies of all their certificates. The other thing is talk to all your relatives now and write down all the information they give you.

I so regret not talking more to my mother and grandmother when they were alive. The problem in life is that we are living our life and forget some of the more important things.

It’s a great hobby

Best of luck
