Hello, just wondering if anyone has information of Wadsley Village.  My 2 x great grandfather was a master cutler employing men. His name was William Haywood.  Is it possible to find out who was apprenticed to him? I would like to learn more about the village, things like the population and main industries.  He [William] rented premises in Crab Tree Lane.

      Cheers from down under Helen

I have a William Haywood in my family tree – 1812 to 1872.  He’s my 3rd great grandfather and was married to Mary Phythian born 1813.  One of their sons – also William – was born 1836.  They had some connection with Wadsley.  Are either of these related to your ancestors?

William Haywood was also my 3 x  grandfather. His daughter Elizabeth was my 2 x grandmother. Elizabeth married John Sellers and after some years they moved to Sheffield. Their grandson, Thomas Sellers, moved to Western Australia after WW1.

I have never been able to find records for the birth or baptism of the first three children of William and Mary Phythian. I have been researching Wadsely and surrounds and slowly working through the extended families of the Haywood children.Shall I sendmyprivate email address so that we can correspond more about the families? I think we can do that through Carole at S&DFHS. Cheers Helen
