A spelling variant I’d never thought of

One of my Donkersley clan took some finding.  He was born on board a ship bound for India.  His father, a soldier, came from Honley and his mother was Irish.  Not only was he recorded as being a girl, his surname was recorded as Dinhersley.  I presume that’s an Indian Clerk trying to understand an Irish mother pronounce an unfamiliar name!
