Can anyone explain the “court” housing system. For example I have my 3x gt gdmother Hannah Sanderson nee Scholey living according to the 1871 census at 5 court 7 Rockingham Terrace Ecclesall Bierlow. Then another example is for my 4x gt uncle Charles Scholey and according to the 1871 census he was living at no 13 court no 3 house Brunswick Road Bierlow. I do have more relatives living in different court’s around Sheffield. So far I do not have other relatives who live in different parts of the country in similar court housing. Is this unique to Sheffield.
